Pity Party Over

Today I was thinking about the post I wrote last night.

I was upset that I let a few customers get to me when I have so many customers that are happy.
I was upset that I let a few customers make me question my grooming skills.
I was upset that I let a few customers bring me down.

I LOVE WHAT I DO!!!!!

I LOVE BEING A PROFESSIONAL PET GROOMER!

I Love being a puppies first groomer.

I Love teaching a puppy that a bath can feel good and not be scary.

I Love taking a dog from this......

....to this.

I Love when they trust me.

I Love that some customers let me play with color.

I Love that some of the dogs feel comfortable enough to play on the drying table.

I Love that I can get dogs to relax enough to go to sleep on my table.

I Love that I am lucky enough to own my own business.

I Love helping matted dogs to.....

......feel better.

I

LOVE

GROOM

EVERYDAY!

When I was growing up, I wanted to be a Veterinarian.
After High School, I worked for one.
I very quickly realized that it was not for me.
I have too soft of a heart.

Giving shots would not have bothered me.
Doing surgeries would not have bothered me.
I certainly would have been happy helping and healing animals.

My problem was, I would never had been able to put an animal to sleep.
It would have killed me not to be able to save an animal.
I saw some very upsetting things in that short time.

I remember being so excited when I found out about pet grooming.
There was a way of working with dogs all day and making them feel and look good.

I just needed to remember.

Remember why I became a Professional Pet Groomer.

Remember all of those dirty matted dogs that I have sent home feeling a 100% better then when they came in to me.

Remember all of the times that I was able to educate a customer on how to take care of their dogs coat, and they really listened to me.

Remember all of the dogs, over the years, that I found things on them that needed to be seen by a Vet.

Remember that I have actually saved a few dogs by my early detection of something while grooming.

Remember all of those really great customers that I have had over the years.

Remember all of those dogs that I really love to groom.

I am a Professional Pet Groomer....

....AND PROUD OF IT!!!!!!

I will always do my best.
If a customer doesn't like my style of grooming, and I can't make them happy, that's okay.
There is a groomer out there somewhere for them.
It just isn't me. :)

I groom for the dogs!

Enjoy the pictures.
They helped remind me why I love my job. :)

Happy Grooming, MFF

    1. Hi Laura,
That tiny Pom hardly weighs a pound, and is very old. She is such a sweet heart.

  4. Dont let people bring you down! You are one of the good ones, and the dogs know it when you are working with them! I have resorted to telling people that even though my shop is a business, it is run more like a hobby, because I love what I do, but I wont keep a customer if they make my life miserable! .... i do it for the dogs and myself!

    1. Hi Monica,
"Don't let people bring you down." I say the same thing all of the time. It's just that sometimes I have a hard time practicing what I preach.:) Sometimes I feel like I take it and take it till I can't take it NO more!! LOL
That's why I am feeling better....I refuse to let a customer make my life miserable.

  5. I think I may be a mixture of you and your daughter when it comes to dealing with clients.... but I understand what you mean. When someone says something, it ruins your day! Plain and simple!! Your mojo is out of wack for the rest of the day, possibly the week! It would be nice if someone could do the dirty work for ya... like have a call center somewhere to book or not book appointments!! But just keep your head up and THANK YOU for your blog and what you do!

    1. Hi Monica,
Why, WHY can't we let the nice compliments stick with us the way the bad stuff does???? I just don't get it. No matter how much I try, I always have a tough time shaking the bad comments. Thankfully they are few and far between, or I don't think I would still be grooming. That is why groomer need to support each other and pat each other on the back sometimes. :)

  6. Hey, I have a question about my Care Bears a GSD/ Black Lab mix that's mostly GSD. I do all his grooming and I was wondering what is the best way to trim the hair that grows between his toes? Also he has black nails and he like to be difficult when I try to trim them, I'm so scared that I'm going to cut too short! Any tips would be really welcomed!!!!

    1. Hi,
So sorry to take so long to reply.

To trim between the toes, I would take a brush and brush the hair up and back (towards the leg) and then scissor the hair that is sticking up from between the toes and shape it with the rest of the foot.

As for the nails....if you are scared he will most likely keep fighting you. They really sense your fear. If you are stiff and afraid, your dog will think 'omg something bad is going to happen!'

I once bought everything that I needed to trim my horses hooves. I had watched the farrier many times and was sure that I could do the same thing. My horse was really good about letting me do things and cleaning his feet. So one day I cleaned his feet and then picked up the file. As soon as that file was in my hand my horse freaked. It was like he was saying 'oh no you don't! You have no idea what you are doing.' Needless to say, the farrier still trims his hooves. :)
