....Customers that come in to pick up their dogs with a pre-written check.
Is it just me, or is it pretty presumptuous to assume that the price will always be the same.
So, if I go into the grocery store next week and buy the exact same groceries that I bought last week, I can go ahead and pre-write my check for what I paid the last time, right?
Is it just me that is bothered by this?
Oh, and don't bother to tell your customers not to do this, because that just goes in one ear and out the other.
They will bring in a pre-written check again the next time.
I am done....pet peeve over....till #3. :)

Agree! And so many of them do it!
ReplyDeleteMore irritating? Someone who asks on the phone how much it will be, then brings $5 less because "that's what they had on them, but I'll bring you $5 on Friday."
And don't get me started on the woman who brought in her neighbors sweet but badly neglected dogs and thought I should groom them at no charge because SHE was doing a good deed. You aren't grooming them, I am!
Hi,
DeleteIt is the same with the owners that bring in 2 to 3 or more dogs and want a discount because they are bring you so many dogs. So which dog gets only half a hair cut to cover the discount? They just don't seem to realize that we still have to do the same amount of work. Oh well...

^ Reason #42: Why we no longer accept checks. We accept debit/credit cards, and cash. I have 2 signs, and I tell everyone their total when they drop-off and that they may pay when they pick-up and the preferred methods that we take. Few large checks bounced on us last year, never again. :\

Hi Serena,
DeleteI guess that I have been really lucky with checks over the years. I have always been able to collect when one bounces. I do charge the customer what the bank charges me for the bounce check. Thankfully I don't get very many bounced checks to begin with. :)

I hate when my customers do this. I only have a few, and they are all elderly, so out of respect, I don't say anything. One of my customers who has been with me for 21 years (we're on her third mini poodle)still hands me a check for $25. I don't have the heart to tell her that I now charge $45. Thank goodness I only have a few of these!! Karen in NJ
ReplyDeleteOkay Karen,
DeleteI am beginning to think that we are somehow related. :)
I had something very similar with an elderly customer whose toy poodle I used to groom. I got her as a customer from another groomer who had retired. Her prices were sooooo low. I was able to move everyone's prices up except this one lady. I continued to groom her toy poodle till it died, for $16, for a lamb cut! That was over 15 years ago. It was $20 short of what I was charging at the time. I just accepted that $16, pre-written check, every time. Still have a few elderly customers whose prices are not where they should be, because they seem to have the mentality that the grooming price should stay the same for the life of the dog. :p

It always frustrates me too! I seem to get the pre-written check from people trying to avoid dematting charges. It drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI hate sneaky people. Oh well, they will just have to pay the difference in cash. 'Yes, I will wait for you to go to the ATM.' :)
