About Me:

I am a professional Pet Groomer. I have been grooming for 28 years. This Blog is a kind of diary of my work. I wish I had started years ago, writing some of the experiences I have had while grooming. Most days are fun, some can be sad, some can be just down right crazy. If you are a pet owner and come across this blog, I hope it helps you understand how your pet is groomed. If you are a Pet Groomer, I hope you can relate to some of the stories. Maybe even learn a grooming tip or can leave a friendly grooming tip for me. There is always something to learn, no matter how long you have been grooming.

Cute Terrier Mix

We took an extra day off .
The day after Thanksgiving.
Yesterday.

I spent ALL day yesterday sorting and categorizing my pictures so that I could then save them to disc.
Yes, I should have been doing this all along as I take the pictures.

I should.

It is one of those things that I kept telling myself to do...then I would say 'I'll do it tomorrow.
That was many, many, many tomorrows ago.

Well, the other day my computer decided to give me a wake up call and freaked me out.
The screen suddenly went out, and the darn thing started revving up very loudly.
It is working fine now, but you better believe that I am saving those darn pictures now.

Anyway, as I was sorting through my pictures I came across a few sets that I had taken to write posts about and never did.

This post is about one of those sets.

I love when we get Terrier mixes in.

So often they don't get their first grooming till they are 3, 4 or 5 years old.

They also don't get their first grooming until their hair has become so wild that it is very messy, or there are areas where the hair is breaking away, making the dogs coat look very uneven.

That was the case with this little one.

Most of the coat had broken off around the neck.

This dog had 'hand-stripping' written all over it.

Can you tell how scared she was?

She had no idea were her owner had brought her, or why?

I spent a lot of time talking to her.

She spent all of her time staring out my window watching for her owner.

The owner wanted to do something about all her messy, flyaway hair, but did not want her clipped short.
I thought about hand-stripping her, but she had never had it done in her life so far and wanted absolutely nothing to do with it.

So, out came the scissors and thinning shears.

I matched her body up with the length of the hair on her neck, where she had already hand-stripped herself by scratching. :)

Her owner wanted the hair left on the ears.

I think that her ears would have looked so nice and cute if they had been hand-stripped.

All that beautiful black velvet hair was just waiting to be seen under all of that thin silver hair.

The owner also wanted her eyebrows left, because after all...that is her personality.

I neatened up her mustache.

Isn't she cute?

I love Terrier mixes.

Oh, did you notice, in all of the pictures, she never took her eyes off that window?

She did stop being scared.

That's the important thing.

But, she never stopped wanting to go home. :)

I wish that Terrier owners came in more often.

Happy Grooming, MFF

  1. Your using an orange table! I thought you got a new electric table? Or is that the new table! I love terrier mixes ;) I get them occasionally, they don't like the fly away hair but it grows so fast!

    1. LOL Zhitong,
The pictures were from right before I got my new table. I was a little late posting them. :)

  2. I'm with you on that. I groom a lot of Shih Tzus and Maltese (and crosses) which I detest (don't tell anyone). Every time I get a terrier or terrier cross in, I dream about one day having a big enough shop that I could just groom terriers all the time!
