About Me:

I am a professional Pet Groomer. I have been grooming for 28 years. This Blog is a kind of diary of my work. I wish I had started years ago, writing some of the experiences I have had while grooming. Most days are fun, some can be sad, some can be just down right crazy. If you are a pet owner and come across this blog, I hope it helps you understand how your pet is groomed. If you are a Pet Groomer, I hope you can relate to some of the stories. Maybe even learn a grooming tip or can leave a friendly grooming tip for me. There is always something to learn, no matter how long you have been grooming.

Many Colored Mohawks

I have a Cocker that I have been grooming for many years now.
His owners love for him to have a mohawk.
They especially love to have it colored every time he is groomed.
I don't take pictures every time, but I have taken a few.
He is getting older now, but his owners still love his colorful mohawks, and he loves all of the attention that he gets.  :)

Enjoy!

  1. Oh Lisa....how fun!! Can I ask some things? What kind of color do you use for him? Is it gone completely from groom to groom? Do you charge ? Or is it just for fun? I love it!!! I do my St.'s tail with manic panic...but am hesitant on a clients dog ...less I screw it up! Thanks in advance...

    1. Hi Lory,
All of those mohawks were done with blow pens. I have also used childrens sidewalk chalk, but it does not come out very dark on this particular dogs hair.
He comes in every 8 weeks. As far as I know they do not bathe him between groomings and the color is always gone by the next grooming.
Remember the picture that I posted of my poodles ears right before Easter? The color on her ears has now faded about 50%. When I bathe her this coming Saturday, with whiting shampoo, all of the rest of the color should wash out. Some colors, like red, tend to take a couple of washings to get rid of.
I do not really offer coloring in my shop. This particular customer saw my dog at a pet expo when I did a giant flower on her hip. She loved it so much she asked if I would color her dogs mohawk the next time I groomed him. I have been coloring it ever since. I don't charge her because she is a long time customer. She is also the perfect customer. She always shows for her appointments. She is always on time. She never gets upset if her dogs are taking longer because we are running behind. She also tips, and is a really nice and friendly person...so I don't charge her for the few minutes it takes me to color the mohawk.
I have thought about offering just ears and tail colored, but have not done it yet.

    1. Hi,
I like the Heritage Shears that The Groomers Mall sells. I buy the 'Stiletto's', 10" curved and straight. Here is their website:
