About Me:

I am a professional Pet Groomer. I have been grooming for 28 years. This Blog is a kind of diary of my work. I wish I had started years ago, writing some of the experiences I have had while grooming. Most days are fun, some can be sad, some can be just down right crazy. If you are a pet owner and come across this blog, I hope it helps you understand how your pet is groomed. If you are a Pet Groomer, I hope you can relate to some of the stories. Maybe even learn a grooming tip or can leave a friendly grooming tip for me. There is always something to learn, no matter how long you have been grooming.

I Keep Trying.....

......Asian grooming.

I love it.

I love how cute the faces look.

So every chance I get I try to copy the Asian style.

Something I tried just for fun.

A combination of a very short muzzle with a round head.

No, I didn't leave it that way. lol

The owner had already chopped up the muzzle, so I was just playing with the groom.

Then I tried an Asian grooming on this little Yorkie because the owners wanted to keep the hair on the ears and take the face short.

It turned out okay, but I really wanted the face to be rounder.

Then I tried again with this Maltese.

I just can not get the head and face as round as I want it.

Then I tried again with this little Poodle.

I thought if I cut more from under the eyes and behind the mustache I could get that rounder look around the mouth.

Nope.

It just looked close to how I usually scissor the face.

I thought that I would try again today with this dog.

Unfortunately there were two problems.

First, the dog was only getting a bath and neaten, so I could not take much off of the face.

The second problem was, the tongue.

It is very hard to scissor, or see what you are scissoring when the dog likes to keep her mouth open and tongue hanging out. :/

I had one other dog to try on today.

Let me just say, a 4 month old puppy isn't the greatest choice to try to get a really round face.

Halfway there, but I can already tell that I have failed again.

There must be some trick that I am just not figuring out.

All this puppy wanted to do was sleep.

He could care less how I scissored his face.

I know that this type of grooming is not for everyone, but I just love the faces.

  1. I have been doing the same thing you have! I think my problem is I don't leave enough hair on the top of the muzzle. In your first picture there is more hair on the top and sides of the muzzle than there is on the bottom. I also think it the roundness has to do with fur type too,if the dog doesn't have thick voluminous hair it is very difficult to do.

    1. Hi Anjanette,
I have the same problem. All of my customers want very short around the eyes and would never let me keep all of that hair on top of the nose like on the Asian grooms.
On the dog with the short chin I was trying to get that flared out look were the chin looks almost shaved and the mustache flares outward.
You are also right about the texture of the hair. The little white dogs hair looked round while I was scissoring, but the hair dropped making it look flat on the sides of the face. Oh well...

  2. Lisa - this styling is taking off in several western countries. In Britain there are many enthusiasts. Here's a Facebook group you may like to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/543451625692884/

To get hair to 'stay' in place for scissoring, blitz a bit of mousse onto a comb & comb it thoroughly through the hair on the face. I guess you could also try a scissoring spray or even hair spray, although I've not those.

    1. Hi Trudy,
Thanks for the link. I do belong to that group. :) Love looking at the pictures.

Right now I am just playing to see if I can master it. I really don't see my customers wanting some of those styles. :( I also don't like to use a lot of product around the mouth and eyes.
